Workplace:DEBRIEF

Healing and recovery often begin with awareness, and slowing down matters. Many people skip checking in on themselves after hard shifts. Start by reconnecting and processing.

After a difficult shift, don’t carry it home alone

Some shifts stay with you — a death, an assault, a mistake, a patient or client you couldn’t help. Nurses, carers, first responders and frontline workers are expected to walk out the door and be fine. In this short recorded counselling session, psychotherapist Deborah Young takes you through a proper debrief: what happened, what it stirred up, what it means, and what you take from it — so the shift is processed rather than buried.

It is a real session, at a real pace, and it’s deliberately short. Use it on the drive home, before bed, or the next morning — and come back to it after every hard shift.
